McDonalds to open all drive thru in the UK next week
During the coronavirus lockdown, restaurants closed their doors to help protect staff and customers.
Among these were fast food chains including KFC, McDonald’s and Burger King.
On March 23, a KFC statement said: “We’ve decided, together with our franchise partners, to begin closing our restaurants to help protect the wellbeing and safety of our teams and of our guests.”
The restaurant has focused on improving hygiene and social distancing measures and started to reopen branches in April.
Which branches are open?
In a message posted on Twitter yesterday, KFC confirmed there are 700 restaurants open again in the UK.
The message read: “We’ve reached the milestone of 700 restaurants reopened responsibly across the UK & Ireland.
“As well as delivery and drive-thru, over half of those are now back open for takeaway too.”
Restaurants have opened in locations including London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin.
Many local branches in small towns have also opened their doors.
While seating areas remain closed, KFC fans can still get their fix by delivery, drive-thru and selected branches will offer takeaway with a limited menu.

Takeaway: How to make McDonald’s, KFC and Nando’s at home
While chicken fans will be eager to get back to restaurants, KFC took to Twitter to detail the new safety measures have been put into place.
These include protective screens, face masks and floor markings to encourage social distancing.
The post reads: “The restaurants will look a little different to how they did before.
“You’ll notice we’ve made a few changes to ensure we’re offering takeaway in a way that’s as responsible as it is convenient.
“These include protective screens, gloves and face masks for our team as required and social distancing guidance clearly marked on the floor.
“There may also be specific limits on the number of people who can be in the restaurant at any one time.”
The takeaway branch also gave an insight into when restaurants will fully reopen and explained it will only do what is safe.
“We know it’s all pretty different from normal,” the post continued, “but thank you for understanding and for helping out teams by following the new measures.
“Ultimately the wellbeing of our guests and teams remains the most important thing – so if we can’t reopen a restaurant responsibly, we won’t.”
