Lantana Cafe has three outposts in London – Shoreditch, London Bridge, and Fitzrovia. I tried out the London Bridge outpost for dinner – and it was pleasingly buzzy, even on a weeknight.
The Concept
Offering the laidback vibe and fresh flavours of Australia, Lantana Cafe is a beacon of Aussie cafe culture in (sometimes grey!) London.
Famous for their brunches and house blend coffee, the mini-chain treads that fine line between healthy and indulgent well, with menus throughout the day for whatever you are in the mood for.
From breakfast to lunch and afternoon tea to dinner (plus cocktails), there is never a bad time to drop in.
Service is friendly and efficient – the staff are there when you want them but not overbearing, which is exactly how it should be.
The Food & Drink
Dinner is on offer at the London Bridge and Shoreditch outposts.
Vegans and Vegetarians are well catered for, but there is also plenty of meat and fish which reflects the balanced nature of the menu.
As a pescatarian, I opted for Prawn and Fish Fritter tacos which came with a delicious sour cream lime mayo.
It felt really indulgent but not guilt-inducing, and I could easily imagine eating this regularly…in fact, writing this has reminded me I must go back asap for another taste!
Thanks not being in a food coma post-main course, I went all out for dessert and treated myself to Toasted Banana Bread with salted caramel and grilled banana. Omg. This was as good as it sounds, and I sunk into food-bliss after eating it. But, as with all the food here, it tasted fresh and not “too much”.
For those wanted a blow-out, go for the brownie with almond brittle, which my friend had – “rich and perfect” was her description.
Cocktails are not to be missed, and I sipped on an Australian 75 – a refreshing mix of Limoncello, lemon and Prosecco. My dinner-mate went for a classic Margarita – in fact she enjoyed it so much she had a few!
Overall, Lantana Cafe is a relaxed spot for a catchup with friends where you know there is delicious food that everyone will enjoy, and where you can opt to “go healthy” but also indulge too.
