Lidl has plenty of loyal customers thanks to its cheap prices and unbeatable Middle of Lidl deals. However, many have been missing the supermarket’s bakery section in recent months as it stopped serving fresh goods amid hygiene fears. But the good news is that it’s back and reopening this week.

Lidl revealed the news on social media to UK followers, sharing a clip of all the tweets the brand has seen about the bakery.
“We’re sorry you had to go through all that. The bakery is now open again,” the tweet announced.
“Please form an orderly queue.”
Lidl paired the tweet with a video showing fans sharing how much they missed the bakery during the lockdown.

“Woohoo! I’ve missed your jam doughnuts!” replied one Twitter user, who was glad to hear it was back.
Many supermarkets closed off fresh counters at the beginning of lockdown due to worries about hygiene, especially with self-service bakery items.
However, Lidl has reopened the section and put new measures in place to keep customers safe.
The supermarket tweeted a short video clip to tell followers the three ways they can help to minimise the risk.

The store has asked customers to always use tongs for loose items, rather than handling the treats themselves.
However, Lidl will now have disposable gloves by the bakery section so customers can use them to hold the tongs and the baked goods.
There are also some pre-bagged items in store too to make it easier – but some customers aren’t impressed with the news.
Sharing tongs between customers could be risky as not everyone is necessarily sticking to the rules of wearing gloves in store.

Shoppers replied to the tweets to share their disappointment at the way the bakery has reopened, a they were expecting everything to be pre-wrapped for safety.
“Despite promises that everything would be wrapped it just hadn’t happened! Still no @LidlGB bakery items for me!!” said one.
“Seen this the other day none of it was wrapped has certainly put me off buying from the bakery which is a shame I loved it! ” said another.
Lidl responded to the concerned customers, saying: “We are sorry to learn that you were unhappy that our bakery goods are no longer pre bagged. Our staff are continuing to use single use gloves and are taking all necessary precautions.”
However, Lidl has updated its website with the news and promises that it will be keeping an eye on the situation – suggesting it may change in the future.
“Whilst we always urge customers to use the tongs provided in our bakery, as a temporary measure, you’ll also notice there are disposable gloves for you to use in order to bag loose items yourself, safely.
“In addition to this, our teams are continuing to pre-bag a selection of loose bakery items for you. We’re continuing to monitor this area of our store, and will change the way we’re doing things if necessary.”
Some staff are also wearing protective visors in store, and other measures remain in place such as trolley-cleaning stations and a higher contactless payment limit.
