When life gives you Meyer lemons, make this softened take on a lemon drop. Meyer lemons are in season from November to March, so the holidays are the perfect time to take advantage of these unique fruits. They’re considered a cross between a standard lemon and a mandarin orange, so their tartness is subdued. Place the candies in a Ziplock bag to finely crush. It’s easier to get a nice thick ring on the glass by holding it in one hand and sprinkling the candy dust on with the other.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons plus 1 tsp. simple syrup, divided
- Finely crushed lemon candies (such as Lemonheads)
- 1/4 cup (2 oz.) vodka
- 2 tablespoons fresh Meyer lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
- 1 tablespoon (1/2 oz.) Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
- Thin slice Meyer lemon
How to Make It
Step 1
Rub rim of a martini glass with 1/2 teaspoon of the simple syrup. Place crushed candies in a shallow dish, and dip rim in candies.
Step 2
Combine vodka, lemon juice, Grand Marnier, and remaining 2 tablespoons simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice; cover and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is frosty, about 15 seconds. Strain into prepared glass. Float a thin slice of lemon in glass.
