According to Brad Leone, host of Bon Appétit‘s “It’s Alive” video series, there’s one spatula in particular that deserves the attention of any and every home cook. Drum roll, please!
In a recent Grub Street interview, Leone raves about the Winco FST-6 fish spatula, noting how he uses it for flipping, searing, and making delicious dishes with meat, fish, veggies, and more. He refers to it as something he “can’t live without.”
“I use it for everything, not just fish: It’s my go-to flipping thing. Vegetables, eggplant, steak — basically for anything you’re searing and want to get under smoothly and sharply, this is your guy. And this brand, Winco, is tried-and-true,” he said to Grub Street.
The spatula has an even wooden handle, is made of stainless steel, and has an ergonomic turning blade for flipping things smoothly and efficiently. It’s also an edged-end model, which means it can also act as a quasi-knife to cut things while using. Bonus: It’s only $6 on Amazon.
Amazon reviewers also have great things to say about this spatula. “It says it’s a ‘fish turner,’ but I use it for pretty much everything I cook in a pan … eggs, burgers, meats, sandwiches, stir-fry, etc. I like that this spatula is thinner on the top edge so you can really get under whatever you are cooking very easily. It’s great if you don’t cook on non-stick pans,” says one customer.
“Works great, if you are in the market for a fish spatula or a better spatula in general this is a good price. It will last if you keep the handle oiled. Easy to get under food. I have not purchased an expensive fish spatula because this one has done a great job,” said another reviewer.
Brad is right, the price is right — we’re all alright.
