We still haven’t gotten over our excitement about the new Girl Scout cookie for the 2021 cookie season, Toast-Yay!, nor are we over the realization that we’re only a few months away from stocking our cabinets with all the Samoas, Tagalongs, and Do-Si-Dos that we want (Thin Mints go in the freezer, obviously). But as with many things lately, the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie season is expected to look a bit different than most years. Here’s what you should know.
The changes actually began this year, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit during Girl Scout Cookie season. As the Girl Scouts noted in their release about Toast-Yay!, many troops quickly changed their emphasis to virtual sales to create a more contact-less experience while still growing their numbers and giving everyone around the country the cookies they love. This trend is expected to continue into next year as the COVID-19 situation in the U.S. is uncertain and everybody wants to stay as safe as possible.
In one of their innovations, the group also launched Girl Scouts Cookie Care, enabling home delivery and also allowing customers to donate cookies to first responders, volunteers, and local causes. This is expected to continue in 2021, with Girl Scouts around the country also offering contactless delivery, pick-up, and virtual cookie booths via social media. You’ll just need local troop info, which you can find via your local council or through word of mouth.
There will also be some in-person sales, but what is available near you will be depend on local guidelines, troop decisions, and timing, so keep an eye out in early 2021 to see what your nearest troop is offering or you can check your local council for updates here. You can also see if your troops are selling Toast-Yay! as it’s only going to be available in select markets. Stay safe and be sure to clear your freezer for those Thin Mints!
