Alan Halsall has appeared on ITV’s Coronation Street since 1998. Fans of the soap star have noticed his incredible weight loss in recent years which may have been helped by regular exercise.
Fans started to comment on his weight loss just a few years ago after spotting his slim frame on social media and on the small screen.
Since then, Alan has occasionally updated followers on Instagram with his intensive fitness regime.
One snap posted online showed the actor standing with a group on what appeared to be a badminton court.
Fans were quick to comment on his slim frame and praise his healthy transformation.
One wrote: “Looking trim there Al.”
“You have lost so much weight,” another observed.
A third agreed, and added: “Best legs by far!”
The secret behind his toned physique may have been revealed in another Instagram post.
One picture taken in 2018 showed Alan lifting weights at the gym.
The caption revealed he was enjoying a workout session with his co-star Colson Smith, who has also shed an impressive amount of weight recently.
“Trying to work out whilst laughing at @colsonjsmith having fun & working hard,” the caption read.
“Health is not just about the weights you’re lifting or what you’re eating. It’s also about what you’re thinking and saying!! #mindandbody.” [sic]
When it comes to staying in shape, both exercise and diet play an important part.
It would appear Alan focused on both of these when going through his transformation.
The Coronation Street favourite seems to do both cardio, through badminton, and resistance training, as he lifted weights.
What are the benefits of exercise?
Cardio exercises, such as running or cycling, are a good way to burn calories.
One study published in the National Library of Medicine showed just 30 minutes of jogging can burn 250 calories, based on someone who weighs 160 pounds.
Weight training for the same amount of time was shown to torch around 130 to 220 calories.
However, doing resistance training can burn more calories overall as it helps to build muscle.
Studies have suggested building muscle can boost the metabolism, which means the body burns more calories when resting.
