A caller asked fitness expert Patrick on Lorraine today: “I’d love any tips of shaping legs, stomach and arms without really putting my body under too much pressure.” The expert suggested a number of easy exercises.

Patrick told the viewer “there are numerous things you can do” to slim down these areas.

He advised skipping with a rope or squats, which can be done at home with little equipment.

Patrick said dieters can try anything “from skipping that will help improve your cardiovascular fitness to squats that will help you build up your leg muscles and glutes.”

He added: “Press-ups and half press-ups that will help strengthen your up body and tone up your arms.”

Belly fat that hangs around the middle is one of the biggest bugbears for those who wish to slim down.

Generally, the best way to lose belly fat is to lose weight all over.

It is very difficult to encourage the body to drop weight in just one area.

However, there are a number of tricks that have been found to have some impact on this area in particular.

A nutritionist explained the benefits of a high protein diet.

“Protein is slower for the body to digest, so it has the general effect of making you feel fuller for longer.”

Eating more fibre has been shown to help with weight loss, including food such as oats.

It is important to exercise regularly to stay fit and support weight loss.

Personal trainer at SHREDDY, Lianna Swan spoke about the best ways to stay active during the pandemic.

She said: “Adapt your training schedule…If you’re struggling to stick to your usual routine of getting a training session in before/after work, or heading out for a run in these shorter, colder days, why not adapt?

“Try 10- 20 minutes a day of a higher intensity workout.

“Making sure that you get your heart rate raised will have you feeling energised and accomplished, before sitting down for a long work from home day.”
