Expert explains why enjoying exercise is important

Working out without machine or weights may seem a lot like easy work for some and rather un-beneficial. But fitness experts say that bodyweight exercises can be just as good for fat burning as anything else – and hard, too.

“Bodyweight workouts are hard,” explains Anna Victoria, certified trainer (NASM) and creator of the Fit Body App.

“Most might think they’d be easier than weighted workouts, but since you have to get a bit creative with bodyweight workouts, that typically means challenging your body in non-traditional ways.

“Oftentimes under tension, isometric holds or adding a plyometric component.”

A high intensity interval training (HIIT) session is favoured by many, especially those with little time to spare.

With no equipment needed, an individual can get their sweat on, anywhere at anytime that suits them.

Anna told Marie Claire that these kind of workouts can be just as effective as running and weight training.

By getting the blood pumping, slimmers can burn calories, strengthen their muscles and increase their overall cardiovascular fitness all in one place.

Sharing her go-to quick high-powered workout, Anna promised the training circuit will fire up the muscles and get the heart rate up.

“It’s a workout using no outside resistance, just the weight and resistance of your body,” the trainer said.

Circuit one

1. Squats

2. Single leg glute bridge

3. Lunges

4. Squat Jumps

Circuit two

1. Push-Ups

2. Commandos

3. Mountain Climbers

4. Burpees

Aim to complete these two circuits in 15 minutes, performing each move for 60 seconds and repeat twice.
