Susanna Reid appeared on Good Morning Britain (GMB) today with colleague Robert Rinder. The 50-year-old from Croydon always stuns in a beautiful dress or suit – but how does she maintain her slim frame?

Susanna has opened up about her weight loss, as well as her weight gain, in the past.

In recent months, she spoke about struggling with “lockdown slump” on GMB.

The presenter revealed she had gained a stone since the beginning of the pandemic, and asked personal trainer Joe Wicks for some advice.

In November 2020, Susanna said: “I’m going to be battling with the lockdown stone, it went on during lockdown one.

“I really don’t want another one going on during lockdown two.

“What are the tips you’ve got for trying to stay healthy and what you put into your body as well?”

Joe advised doing regular exercise and cutting down on certain foods to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

He said: “The motivation I always say to people isn’t going to be at the start of the workout it is going to be at the end of it.

“It comes down to keeping it simple with the food.

“Home cooked food, avoiding takeaways, things like drinking wine and cheese that all adds up.

“Keep moving, go for walks and exercise because if you are sedentary and you consume all this extra energy it has nowhere else to go than become body fat.”

Walking has excellent health benefits and even doing short bouts of walking, running, or cycling, a day will contribute to weight loss.

Going for hour-long walks a day may lead to weight loss, according to Healthline.

But the website also stated that “as you lose weight, it’s also important to increase your walking intensity”.

Earlier this year, in March, Susanna mentioned her lockdown gain again, live on air.

She said: “I’ll tell you what, it’s a little early for a swimsuit.

“I’ve been in lockdown, there’s a few pounds that have gone on.

“Hot girl summer is a couple of months away. I’ll tell you.”

Co-presenter Ben Shephard added: “The work starts now though.”

Susanna is, however, no stranger to losing weight and has lost a stone and a half in recent years.

She did this by reportedly making changes to her diet – cutting back on alcohol and snacks, which she continues to do today to maintain her slim frame.

In 2019, the presenter told Prime Magazine: “I feel fantastic.

“This time last year, I went to the doctor with a skin problem and he told me I could do with losing some weight.

“It turned out I was at the upper end of my BMI and, I have to admit, I’d been feeling a little heavy for a while.

“I’ve lost a stone and a half since then and I feel fantastic.”

Speaking to the Sunday Times Magazine in October 2020, Susanna added: “I was concerned because my skin was flushed, I kept getting flare-ups and blemishes, and they were leaving red scars.

“I’d tried all manner of creams and washes, but I knew deep down that what was happening to my skin was probably a manifestation of what I was putting into my body.”

Around the same time, the presenter told ITV’s Lorraine how she reduced the number of snacks she ate, revealing: “It can creep up without you noticing, and what I did was cut out snacking.

“I found waking up so early in the morning, and you’re in a sort of energy deficit and all your body can think of is to have toast and biscuits. And you can pile it on really quickly.”
