Comedian Jason Manford, stunned fans after revealing he dropped a whopping three stone in six months after making a big commitment to changing his lifestyle. But how did he do it?
Turns out he was “shocked into action” on New Year’s Day last year and decided to completely overhaul his lifestyle for the better.
He tipped the scales at 17st 5lb at his heaviest but now weighs a healthy 14st 10lb.
The 41-year-old had tried a number of different dieting techniques but nothing seemed to be working and he ended up piling the pounds back on.
But it got to the point where he became self-conscious of camera angles and didn’t want to live his life constantly worrying about his weight.
Jason told the Mirror: “What I don’t want to be thinking about is camera angles, ‘do I look fat from that angle?… Is my belly showing from there?’
“You get to the point where you go ‘am I getting enough joy out of life if I’m thinking about my weight?’
“I think I’ve thought about my weight every day of my adult life.
“Not crying about it, but gone upstairs and tried to put something on that doesn’t fit, or got out of breath chasing the kids.”
But now he feels much more confident, adding: “To get to a point where I’m thinking about it in a positive way feels good.”
But by counting calories and doing more exercise, he noticed a huge difference in himself and his appearance.
“I get a bit of a buzz out of it,” he said of watching the number on the scales go down each time.
According to Healthline, counting calories is a “time-tested” way to lose weight.
Many studies show that recording food intake and physical activity are very effective ways to help shed pounds.
When starting a weight loss journey, experts suggest people work out their calorie deficit and the weight will soon start falling off.
Jason recorded his weight every day and aimed to eat around 1,500 to 2,000.
The comedian also upped his exercise levels by walking more and he began to go to the gym twice a week.
But he noted he didn’t exclude any food from his diet.
“Just eat less and do more,” he said during an appearance on Good Morning Britain. “There’s no shortcut really.”
Consuming fewer calories than normal and exercising more will help people reach their goals quicker.
It’s also highly recommended that people make a few other changes to their diet and lifestyle that can help maintain their calorie deficit in the long run without feeling hungry or deprived.
There are some simple strategies to help people eat within their calorie deficit.
Eating enough protein helps fight cravings and research has shown that high-protein snacks help enhance feelings of fullness while decreasing hunger and appetite.
