A quick search online will bring up a range of weight loss diet plans. One woman has slimmed down by a 7st 3lb in 18 months.

Leanne Lindsay, from Surrey, had piled on the pounds over the years.

With a diet of high calorie, fatty foods and regular snacking, her weight soon ballooned until she tipped the scales at 19 stone.

After she got chatting to a personal trainer at the school gates, Leanne decided it was time to change.

She gave her diet and exercise regime a makeover and lost a whopping 7st 3lb, slimming down to 11st 11lb.

Speaking of her weight gain, Leanne commented: “During my pregnancy with my daughter I put on about five stone, and then my weight carried on creeping up from there.

“But as my daughter got older, I gradually realised I didn’t want to be the ‘fat mum’ in the playground – the one all the other mums would look down at and talk about.

“I was in complete denial about the type and amount of food I was eating, and it was all a recipe for disaster really.

“I’d outright lie to friends and family, making out I hadn’t eaten for ages. Part of this was probably down to the embarrassment of what I was eating, and partly because it would mean I could have another serving.”

Not wanting to be the “fat mum” anymore, Leanne got talking to another mum who was a personal trainer.

She encouraged Leanne to sign up for her local fitness class and adjust her diet plan.

The dieter swapped unhealthy convenience food for meals high in protein and healthy fats, ordering meals from online food retailer musclefood.com.

She explained: “One of the other mums at my daughter’s school was a qualified personal trainer. She urged me to start exercising and was kind enough to show me the ropes, so I joined a local fitness class and haven’t looked back since.

“I also had to learn to understand food properly, so greasy takeaways and super-sized portions of carb-laden meals were quickly replaced with high protein chicken, fish and healthy fats like coconut oil and avocado.

“Within a matter of weeks, the weight was literally dropping off me, and being able to go out and buy a new wardrobe – for the right reasons this time – gave me the boost I needed to carry on.”

In just 18 months, Leanne had lost weight and dropped down to a healthy clothing size 10/12.

As well as losing weight, the dieter revealed her transformation made her feel healthier.

She added: “Looking back now I can see I had a really unhealthy relationship with food. My issues started when I was in a difficult relationship and eating became a bit of a coping mechanism for me.

“I know I’m not alone in this – I’d bet most people’s disordered eating comes from emotional issues and recognising this is often the first step.

“I’m so much healthier and happier in myself now, which makes me feel great knowing I’m setting an example for my daughter.

“Luckily, she loves healthy foods and will think nothing of wolfing down a plate of tuna and veg, but she still visits fast foods places with her friends as she’s a child and understands it’s all about balance.

“She has a much better understanding of food and nutrition than I did at that age, so I like to think I’ve undergone this transformation for the both of us!”
