Britons have many reasons why they may want to slim down and a diet plan will help them stay on track. A quick search online will bring up lots of different plans so knowing what one to choose is a difficult task. Eating more foods high in protein will help the body burn fat, an expert revealed.

To lose weight, it is important for dieters to track what they are eating, Liam Smith, PT at Snap Fitness, explained.
In particular, slimmers should aim to eat more foods that are high in protein.
Liam told Express.co.uk: “Choosing the right diet for weight loss can get confusing with all these new products and fad weight loss diets, however the simplest and most effective way is tracking your macronutrients; especially your protein intake.
“Having a structured training plan and diet is essential for weight loss, a high protein diet in particular will aid in muscle repair and will keep you fuller for much longer.”
Macronutrients are types of food those hoping to lose weight can track and include protein, fats and carbohydrates.
Eating foods high in protein will also give dieters better results when they exercise.
To lose a few pounds, slimmers will need to consume fewer calories than they burn off.
He said: “Your main concern should be staying in a calorie deficit, which if protein is low will result in muscle loss.
“Therefore I suggest with my clients roughly one gram of protein per one pound of bodyweight.
“This amount of protein is sufficient to both maintain muscle mass, and keep you fuller for longer which will aid your weight loss journey.”
High protein foods include meats, dairy, beans, legumes and soya products.
The expert added: “Protein also has a high thermic effect which means your body requires more energy to digest them. Your main sources of protein can come from meat, fish, nuts, dairy and eggs.”

Dieters can work towards creating a calorie deficit by eating foods that fit their macronutrient allowance and cutting back on snacks.
“For a practical approach when it comes to weight loss, ensure you’re staying within a calorie deficit, and make sure you hit your protein intake each day,” Liam added.
“With reduced snacking, wider food variety and more muscle mass, a weight loss diet can be significantly less painful than the ‘traditional’ methods.”
When trying to find the right diet plan to follow, the expert warned slimmers about restrictive diets.
He explained these plans can be difficult to stick too so dieters might not see results.
Liam added: “Restrictive ‘fad’ diets can be very limiting and incredibly difficult to sustain.
“Finding a diet that suits you both with taste and hitting your macronutrients – fats, carbs and proteins – will allow for it to be more sustainable and therefore successful.”
