Fried cakes or “tortas fritas” as they’re known in Uruguay are a delicious fried snack that people make when it’s raining in Uruguay, but they’re obviously great at any time. This recipe is so memorable to me because I grew up eating this very often, as it rains a lot in Uruguay. I now cook this a few times a months during the weekends and my kids love Tortas Fritas. I promise this recipe won’t disappoint.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 tsp Sugar
  2. 2-3 cups Flour
  3. 1 egg
  4. 1/4 cup milk
  5. 2/3 cup warm water
  6. 2 Tblsp melted butter
  7. Shortening for frying

Steps

  1. Mix all ingredients until well combined.

  2. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it’s smooth.

  3. Fry in shortening.

  4. Once done top with powdered sugar or Dulce de Leche. Enjoy.
