Recipe from My Korean Kitchen

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  2. 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  3. 1 teaspoon white sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  5. 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
  6. Cooking oil
  7. Filling
  8. 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  9. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  10. 2 tablespoons crushed nuts (you can choose)

Steps

  1. Sieve through your flour into a large bowl. Add the salt, white sugar, yeast, and milk

  2. Mix the mixture well, until it becomes a dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap

  3. Ferment bowl at room temperature until dough doubles in size. Once the dough is finished growing in size, punch your dough a few times to release gas. Cover bowl with the wrap again and sit out for 20 minutes

  4. After the 20 minutes is completed, place some oil on your hands and separate dough into 6 pieces

  5. Take a piece and flatten your dough and place 1 tablespoon of filling onto the dough. Once done, seal each dough by gathering each corner. Repeat with the remaining pieces

  6. Preheat a frying pan on medium heat

  7. Once the pan is finished heating, add a thin layer of oil

  8. Keep the heat at medium and place 1 dough piece onto the pan and cook each side until lightly golden brown, which usually takes 30 seconds

  9. Flip the piece over and press with a hotteok press (a solid turner spatula would work too) until bottom side is golden brown, which usually takes 1 minute to complete. Flip again and reduce heat to low. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 1 minute. Place hotteok onto place once done cooking

  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 with the remaining pieces.

  11. Enjoy!
