Queen Camila has likely sampled some of the finest cuisine in the world, but just like non-royals she has her down-to-earth guilty pleasures.

In conversation with Tom Parker Bowles – food writer, food critic and Camilla’s own son – the royal revealed what her ideal last meal would be.

Rather than dining out at a Michelin starred restaurant, Camilla would prefer to dine on some of her own vegetables.

She said: “My last supper would probably involve my own asparagus, with lots of butter.”

She continued: “Angela Hartnett’s risotto. I love her cooking. Dover sole meunière, with ratte potatoes and fresh broad beans and peas from the garden.”

Indeed, Camilla revealed that she and her husband are keen gardeners, growing kale, purple sprouting broccoli, carrots, courgettes, and lots of peas and beans in their garden.

The Queen is particularly “proud” of her exquisite white peaches.

For her last dessert, Camilla would devour some bitter chocolate ice cream, topped with strawberries, raspberries and “lots of clotted cream”.

The Queen divulged that she would wash this down with a “really good glass of red claret”. She added: “And, seeing it’s my last supper, probably two.”

On a day-to-day basis Camilla enjoys a relatively straightforward diet. She cooks for herself when at home – “simple things like fish en papillote with butter and herbs” – and enjoys her produce from the garden.

Despite “hating” them at first, Camilla shared that she now eats avocados “most days”.

As for her favourite foods, in spite of her royal status, Camilla is a big fan of one beloved British staple – it’s ever so cheap and easy to make.

“And freshly cooked fish and chips, wrapped in paper. That smell. You cannot beat proper fish and chips.”

In conversation with Mary Berry, Kate, Princess of Wales shared Prince George’s “favourite” food, and it’s pretty surprising.
