When I stepped into the cosy Richmond restaurant, I was immediately struck by the gorgeous aroma of homemade pizza.

Perusing the menu, I decided to start off with ‘La Bruschetta’, my favourite antipasto, priced at a very reasonable £6.95.

The classic bruschetta boasts basil pesto, cherry tomatoes and buffalo stracciatella cheese.

I’m not a big fan of cheese (weird, I know) so I ditched the stracciatella but I’m sure this is a lovely addition for cheese lovers out there.

I have to say that this bruschetta (sans cheese) was probably one of the best I have ever tasted. The tasty tomatoes were fresh and delicious, totally second to none.

For my main course I let the award-winning Michele come up with something fabulous for me, as I wouldn’t be able to sample any of the cheesy classics.

A smiley waiter came out with my pizza – generously sized and topped with Parma ham, grilled artichokes and of course, a tomato base to die for.

It’s easy to see why Michele won the prestigious award, and the talented chef was delighted to receive the accolade.

While the superstar chef is proud of all his creations, he has two personal favourites you should try on your next visit to Napoli On The Road – and they’re new.

Patate e Truffle is the name given to Michele’s oven baked potato with Cornish sea salt butter and truffle, smoked mozzarella from Caserta, Italian fresh black truffle.

The Ricordi d’infanzia is a “childhood memories recipe” with a base of slow cooked 12 hours Neapolitan beef ragù, parmigiano reggiano chips and parmigiano reggiano cream.

I didn’t order a dessert this time but on my next visit I will definitely be trying the ‘Tiramisu al Pistacchio’, priced at £6.95.

The pudding, comprised of Lady finger biscuits dipped in fresh milk, topped with pistachio Mascarpone creamy cheese and dusted with pistachio nuts, sounds absolutely stunning.

Napoli’s Ricotta e Pera also looks pretty unbeatable, a sponge pudding with ground hazelnuts filled with a “light-as-a-cloud” mixture of cow’s milk ricotta and whipped cream, studded with syrupy pears.

Napoli on the Road has two sites to choose from, Richmond and Chiswick.
