Despite being almost 80, living legend Dolly Parton looks svelte and sublime.
She has an incredible figure for any age – let alone 77 – but admitted she has struggled with her size from time to time.
Dolly wrote six new songs for the soundtrack for Dumplin’, a film about an overweight teenage girl.
She told PEOPLE: “I’m a hog at heart. I’ve been up and down with my weight through the years, so I can definitely relate to that.”
The American star does appear to lead a pretty healthy lifestyle, though. According to PEOPLE, Dolly tries to follow a “low-carb diet” during the week.

But the Tennessee-born star is not afraid to indulge at the weekends. Dolly revealed that she whips up “just old Southern food”, like gravy and biscuits and fried sausage or fried spam for her husband Carl Thomas Dean.
Dolly got her love of cooking from her mum, Avie Lee Owens, who made a lovely chocolate pudding in a skillet.
Indeed, Dolly Parton even has a baking collection in partnership with Duncan Hines, including but not limited to the Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s Caramel Turtle Brownie Mix, Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s Fabulously Fudgy Brownie Mix and Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s Buttermilk Biscuit Mix.

Earlier this year, the singer squashed rumours that she was affiliated with or endorsing keto or CBD gummy products that claimed to reverse dementia. An Instagram post on her official page read: “Dolly Parton is not affiliated with, has not endorsed, and is not associated with any keto or CBD gummy product. She’s more the cake, cookie, and cornbread type.”
While Dolly may be physically beautiful, she puts a lot of emphasis on the futility of outer beauty, a point which comes across in the poignant film.
She told PEOPLE: “You don’t have to look like a supermodel. I really worry a lot about young girls today because they think they have to look like the models or the people on television. We need to be accepting of ourselves in how we are.”
If you want to lose weight via a low-carb diet, consult your doctor or dietician first. The British Heart Foundation offered some tips for those using this weight loss method.
The BHF advised: “Rather than trying to cut out all carbs, being more aware of the amount you are eating, and choosing healthier types, is a sensible and possibly more sustainable approach. Controlling your portion sizes and choosing wholegrain or high-fibre carbohydrates can help you control your weight and blood sugar levels.
“Brown rice, wholewheat pasta, bulgur wheat and oats are wholegrains, which are higher in fibre so help you feel fuller for longer.”
Slimmers can also cut down on food and drink with added sugars – the kind in sweetened drinks, candy, cakes and biscuits.
