In a risk statement, the company explained that the products “might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes”.
Listeria’s symptoms can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
Some people are more vulnerable to the infection, such as those over 65s, pregnant women and babies less than one-month-old, as well as people with weakened immune systems.
Lactalis McLelland Ltd and Co-op issued point-of-sale notices telling customers what to do with the product if they have it at home.
The Food Standards Agency explained: “If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them.
“Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”
Morrisons issued a warning on its website and explained that its Cricket St Thomas Capricorn Goats Cheese is being recalled as a precautionary measure due to a small risk that this product may contain Listeria.
“Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt,” the supermarket said.
Morrisons added that no other products are affected by this issue and that Lactalis Cricket St Thomas team “apologise for the inconvenience this may cause”.
The company also assured “customers of their continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety”.
Shoppers can contact the Cricket St Thomas team on 0845 680 2152 if they have any concerns.
