The Royal Family have likely sampled some of the finest cuisine in the world, but at home may prefer to indulge on similar foods to non-royals.
Darren McGrady was personal chef to Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry for fifteen years, so knows a lot about the royals’ favourite foods.
He spoke to PEOPLE about the eating habits of Prince William and Prince Harry when they were young boys.
The little Princes would enjoy “traditional, English food” including “favourites” such as cottage pie and peas, poached chicken and rice and fish cakes.
Despite being in a very unique position with life experience non-royal children could hardly fathom, they ate much like their peers.

Darren said that the boys would eat “everything a normal British child would have”.
He added: “The only difference is that they had a chef cooking it for them.”
The royal chef shared a funny anecdote about the boys attempting to have pizza for dinner as opposed to a more nutritious meal of roast chicken.

He joked that their juvenile handwriting gave their identities away, so despite their best efforts William and Harry ended up with their nanny’s request of roast chicken.
In a video for Delish, the royal insider recalled the Princes’ love of cottage pie – “if they saw me cooking this one, they knew it would be a fun lunch”.
However, the boys’ grandmother the late Queen Elizabeth II may not have been too fond of this particular meal, as she was not a fan of one particular ingredient.
Darren McGrady also revealed that the young Princes were partial to a tasty dessert – just like most kids are.
They reportedly enjoyed the “quintessentially British comfort food” jam roly-poly. It is a jelly pastry that’s rolled and then baked, often served with custard. They also enjoyed fruity summer pudding.
According to the expert, William and Harry were also big fans of the pudding that has become one of Kate Middleton’s “favourites”.
